DraftKings GPP Money Makers Week 5

Week 5 of the NFL season is upon us!  We had a fairly successful week last Sunday, now let’s build on it and make even more money!  Which means it’s time for another edition of GPP Money Makers!

This week let’s get right to business and get to these Money Makers!!

Quarterbacks

Derek Carr @ LAC ($5200)

Derek Carr is my favorite QB GPP play this week.  In a week where there are some high-end running backs and receivers that you will want to get in your lineup, quarterback is a position that I am going to be paying down at.  The masses are going to be drawn to the Steelers/Falcons game, with great reason, but this Raiders/Chargers game is one I will have a lot of exposure to. The line opened at 51.5 total points and has since risen to 52.5 with the Raiders going from +6 to +5.5 which is a sign they are going to score more points than originally believed.  Game script will also be in Carr’s favor and I could see him throwing the ball 50 times this week after throwing 58 times last week. The Chargers also give up a touchdown 61.54% of the time their opponent reaches the Red Zone and Carr is 3rd in the league in Red Zone attempts with 30 for 6 touchdowns so he will have his opportunities. The Chargers are also just very average against the pass being ranked 18th in Pass DVOA. I expect another big performance from Carr this week.

Running Backs

Christian McCaffrey v. NYG ($8000)

Christian McCaffrey is one of the top GPP options at running back on the board this Sunday in my mind!  McCaffrey is going against a New York Giants defense that is ranked 29th in Rush DVOA. McCaffrey is coming off a week where he had 30 touches and 28 of those came off rushing attempts.  I believe the Panthers have realized that McCaffrey needs this volume to give them the best chance to win the game and this is another week I believe he gets around 28-29 touches again. The Panthers have also done a good job of giving McCaffrey his attempts in the Red Zone as he is 13th in the NFL with 8 rushes.  He has yet to score a touchdown from inside the Red Zone, but with this volume of attempts, I believe he is due.

Melvin Gordon v. OAK ($8600)

Melvin Gordon should be a staple in both cash and GPP lineups this week.  He has the perfect matchup as the Raiders are 28th in the NFL in Rush DVOA and 30th in PASS DVOA against running backs.  Gordon has also been very good in the Red Zone with 8 rushing attempts and 2 touchdowns.and the Chargers should be inside the 20 a lot this week as the Raiders give up a score to opponents 42% of the time they have the ball and give up a touchdown in the Red Zone 50% of the time.  In a game that currently has a total of 52.5 points, I have Gordon projected for 24 touches, and at 1.43 DK points per touch, Gordon has an extremely high floor and ceiling. Most of my lineups are going to be heavy with Raiders and the way I am going to run it back is with Gordon on the other side.

Aaron Jones @ DET ($4300)

I still think Aaron Jones is too cheap at $4300 and I am going back to the well with him this week.  Last week, Jones rushed 11 times for 65 yards and a touchdown and had 1 target for 17 yards. If Mike McCarthy hasn’t watched the film this week and figured out Jones is the best back he has and should be getting 18-20 touches a game, then he probably needs to find a new profession.  This will be the 3rd game back for Jones and I do believe the Packers staff will increase his workload against a porous Lions defense that is 27th in Rush DVOA and 24th in Pass DVOA against running backs. At 1.10 DK points per touch, if Jones does finally get his touches, his ceiling is really high and at what will most likely be less than 1% owned, he will allow you to fit more expensive pieces and get you to the top of the leaderboard.

Wide Receivers

Stefon Diggs @ PHI ($7000)

Diggs is a low floor, high ceiling player every week and this is the week that I believe we get a very high ceiling.  Diggs is coming off weeks with 15, 10, and 13 targets and is averaging 1.93 DK points per target. The total of this game has risen from 44.5 to 46.5, so I believe a good amount of offense is going to be scored and Diggs should get 15+ targets.  Diggs will also be matched up against an Eagles defense that is ranked 31st in Pass DVOA against slot wide receivers and as a team gives up 48.1 DK (4th-most) points per game to opposing receivers. Everything lines up for Diggs to absolutely smash this week.

Amari Cooper @ LAC ($5200)

After a week where Amari Cooper had a stat line of 8 receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown en route to 29.8 DK points, his price dropped $400.  Yes, dropped. It is criminal how badly priced Cooper is this week and I am going to take full advantage of it. As I mentioned earlier, this game is going to be a shootout and the Raiders are going to have to throw the ball to stay in the game, which does nothing but benefit Cooper.  The Chargers are also ranked 32nd in DVOA against opposing WR1’s and give up an average of 45.6 DK points per game to opposing wide receivers. I have Cooper projected for 12 targets this week and at 2.03 DK points per target, the ceiling is very high!!

JuJu Smith-Schuster v. ATL ($7500)

Getting exposure to the Falcons/Steelers game can be tough this week because of the pricing, but my favorite play is JuJu Smith-Schuster.  First off, we all know the Falcons struggles against wide receivers as they have given up 45 DK points per game (7th -most) to them. They are also ranked 27th in Pass DVOA against WR2’s, which is where JuJu will be lining up.  The past 3 games, JuJu has been targeted 11, 11, and 19 times and the volume should keep on coming this week. Smith-Schuster is currently averaging 1.79 DK points per target so like Cooper, he gives us a really high floor which is what we want from our wide receivers in GPP’s.  Oh, did I mention, JuJu is 2nd to only Alvin Kamara with 13 Red Zone targets. Lock. Him. In.

Davante Adams @ DET ($7600)

The Packers might as well hold tryouts before the game on Sunday because come 12pm central, they may have only 1 wide receiver who has caught more than two NFL passes and that guy is Davante Adams.  First off, Adams is in a great spot in Detroit. The Lions are ranked 28th in Pass DVOA against WR1’s and Adams is arguably the best receiver that they will have faced to this point. With Cobb out and Allison questionable, Adams is going to be an absolute target hog on Sunday.  He is coming off a game with 14 targets and I have him slotted for 16 this week. Davante is also 11th in the NFL with eight red zone targets, three of which have led to touchdowns. With the injury tag on Adams this week, we should be able to get him at reduced ownership and just like the other three receivers I mentioned, Adams gives us a very high ceiling.

Tight Ends

Austin Hooper @ PIT ($3000)

Austin Hooper has only had 1 game this year that has actually been noteworthy, but everything says this should be game #2.  First off, the Steelers give up the most DK points to opposing Tight Ends at 21.2 DK points per game and are ranked 24th in Pass DVOA versus them.  In games with these high totals, we have to find the players that are going to be low owned, but also have the ability to score a touchdown or two. That is exactly why I want Austin Hooper shares this week.  He is currently averaging 2.17 DK points per target and I believe the Falcons will have a game plan to get him the ball and if he can get us double digit points at $3000 then he has done his job.

Jimmy Graham @ DET ($4700)

Did I mention the Packers have no receivers this week?  Well, with no receivers, the only other person besides Adams that I see Rodgers throwing the ball to is Jimmy Graham.  Rodgers was very vocal last week about the offense and play calling and made mention of getting Graham the ball more and this seems to be the perfect week to make that happen as the Lions are ranked 27th in Pass DVOA against them.  Graham also caught his first touchdown last week and after watching that game, it looked very obvious that the Packers were looking towards him every time they passed in the Red Zone. I see Graham getting at least 9 targets this week and if he can turn 1 to 2 of those into a touchdown, he will be in a position to be the highest scoring TE of the week!

As always, thank you for reading and best of luck this week! Don’t forget to give me a follow on twitter (@JT_DFS) and let me know how you did!!
