TFA Podcast 32: Dynasty League Football

Jay Ajayi gets a huge value boost in dynasty league football with Lamar Miller moving on.

The Fantasy Authority Fantasy Football Podcast Episode 32, March 8, 2016.

Excitement is buzzing throughout the NFL as free agency is set to hit in less than 24 hours. Out there in the fantasy world there’s a die hard group of fantasy players watching closely not only to the moves of their favorite team, but to the moves of the entire league. These die-hard players are dynasty league football players. Men and women who are so dedicated (or addicted) to fantasy football that they choose to play it all season long. It’s dynasty league football season and with that comes roster sizes that rival real NFL rosters, fantasy football drafts that mirror the NFL Draft and a trading frenzy that would send the average player into a tale-spin of confusion and self-denial.

In this episode we welcome one of our newest writers, and dynasty aficionado, Travis May, as we dive head first into the NFL off-season’s most popular fantasy football format, dynasty league football. For those of you new to the dynasty league football scene, we start off with a quick intro into the world of dynasty, including how to actually find a dynasty league. Then we take a look at what separates dynasty leagues from redraft leagues, the differences between a dynasty startup draft and a rookie draft and some quick tips on managing your roster; such as utilizing your taxi squad and avoiding zero value moves.

We continue our roster management talk with some insights on player stashing. How do you decide who to stash and who to move? We go in-depth with real examples, including getting rid of under-performing veterans, like former Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White and former Indianapolis Colts’ WR Andre Johnson, and acquiring undervalued youngsters, like former Miami Dolphins WR Rishard Matthews and Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Kenny Bell. Plus, we tell you what we look for when making those vital roster decisions. Even giving some insight on guys we’re watching now for potential acquisition later. Matt Forte anyone?

Trade talk dominates the rest of the show as we take a look at general approaches and strategies to trading in dynasty league football formats. Follow that up with a head first plunge into everyone’s favorite trade talk category, candidates for buying low and selling high. Lots of second year players on the buy list, as guys like Pittsburgh Steelers WR Sammie Coates and Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson top the list. Meanwhile, Travis unveils his sell high candidates, including a surprise pick in Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls.

The listeners got involved as well, giving us some great questions during the live broadcast. What is the value of Jay Ajayi if and when Lamar Miller moves on and is it smart to move him now? Would you rather have David Johnson and a 2017 first round pick, or Le’Veon Bell? What do you do with Melvin Gordon, is he worth a 2017 first rounder?
