DFS Bargain Hunting: Week 6

gardner minshew dfs bargain hunting week 6

Cutting coupons. It’s a tedious task. You sift through the online ads, or sit at the dining room table with your scissors and circular. You go to the store with your clippings or print outs and search for your items. It’s not fun by any means, but the work is justified by the money you save at the end of a trip. Some people will even go as far as to shop around at several stores to truly find the best deal. Some think it’s crazy. Why not fork over a little extra money to save some time? Trust me, I get it. However, I will never argue with anyone who is trying to save a little extra change, especially in DFS. And thankfully, we aren’t doing any actual grocery shopping this week. Here’s DFS Bargain Hunting for Week 6.

QUARTERBACK – Gardner Minshew II

DraftKings $5,000 $50,000 10%
Fanduel $6,900 $60,000 11.5%
FantasyDraft $10,800 $100,000 10.8%

Minshew Magic travels back home this week to face the New Orleans Saints. If you are looking for other options outside of Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson, Minshew is a solid pay-down play. I can’t get a good grasp on how this game will play out, but the assumption of rational coaching would lead us to believe the Jaguars should test the Saints through the air. Minshew has posted 15+ fantasy points in every game this season, with his best performance coming just last week where he cracked the 25 point threshold. Minshew’s go-to guy has been second-year breakout receiver D.J. Chark. From what it looks like, he could end up being one of the higher owned players on the slate. He should see Marshon Lattimore’s coverage which has been up and down so far this season. I think Dede Westbrook is just as good an option or maybe even slightly better given his matchup with P.J. Williams in the slot. Minshew should have no issue hitting value this week unless his groin injury causes him to miss.

DraftKings $4,400 $50,000 8.8%
Fanduel $6,000 $60,000 10%
FantasyDraft $8.800 $100,000 8.8%

This feels wrong. Something must have gone awry if Carlos Hyde if I am recommending Carlos Hyde this week. Turns out that what has gone wrong is the Chiefs run defense. The lowest total yardage count allowed to opposing rushers this season by the Chiefs is 81. In the games following that, they have surrendered totals of 129, 203, 186 and 180. With their solid efforts against the pass, I think it is safe to tab Kansas City as a run funnel. Such a run funnel that even Carlos Hyde may be able to find success this week. His soft salary leaves some room for error, and also room for upside especially if he finds the endzone. If you aren’t down with Hyde, then maybe give Kenyan Drake a look as a salary saving running back.

WIDE RECEIVER – Michael Gallup

DraftKings $5,600 $50,000 11.2%
Fanduel $6,100 $60,000 10.1%
FantasyDraft $11,500 $100,000 11.5%

Like I mentioned before, D.J. Chark figures to be one of the more popular plays this week. With that in mind, I’ll point you in the direction of another second-year receiver who is having his own coming-out party. Michael Gallup has flat out crushed in his three games for the Dallas Cowboys this season. He returned from a meniscus injury last week and didn’t miss a beat, posting 7 catches on 14 targets for 113 yards and a touchdown. This week he will get a suspect Jets secondary that should be easy pickins’ for Dak and the Cowboys. A blowout is concerning, but I have a hunch that the Cowboys might keep their foot on the gas with back to back bad losses on their mind. I think Gallup will be one of the main beneficiaries. Like him everywhere, but he is the most valuable on Fanduel.

TIGHT END – Gerald Everett

DraftKings $3,600 $50,000 7.2%
Fanduel $6,000 $60,000 10%
FantasyDraft $7,000 $100,000 7%

Last year’s potent Los Angeles Rams attack lacked the featured tight end that some of these major contenders have nowadays. Here in the early going of 2019, that might be changing. Gerald Everett has seen a two-game spike in targets that could become three this week especially if Brandin Cooks misses. Across these past two games, he has seen 19 passes thrown his way. Hopefully, it is not an aberration. Most of the top tier tight ends like Zach Ertz and George Kittle seem cheap relative to their roles this week, but if you want to pay down, Everett looks like the way to go. His price on Fanduel is feasible, but DraftKings and FantasyDraft provide the best price.

DEFENSE –  San Francisco 49ers

DraftKings $2,700 $50,000 5.4%
Fanduel $4,400 $60,000 7.3%
FantasyDraft $5,000 $100,000 5%

The 49ers are coming off of a statement win this past Monday but will have to turn right around and face a division rival. The Rams will be well-rested after their tilt with the Seahawks and will want to right the ship after that tough loss. Right now, it’s looking like probably no Todd Gurley and possibly no Brandin Cooks. The injuries only help the 49ers cause. They have been racking up turnovers of all kinds with 7 interceptions and 4 fumble recoveries on top of 13 sacks. While I am confident they can produce at that price, this is more of a bet against Jarred Goff if nothing else. He has as many touchdowns as interceptions this season (7) and 3 lost fumbles. Playing the 49ers defense is also a contrarian way to get exposure to one of the best games on the slate.
