Real football is right on the horizon with us officially being one week out until the Falcons and Eagles kick the season off next Thursday night. Before that, we must endure one final week of the preseason, one which will feature primarily third and fourth stringers battling it out for roster spots. For DFS purposes, there is an intriguing edge to be had in week four especially if you have kept up on team news and have had your eye on some of these guys in the fourth quarters of these last three preseason games. Today could be their time to shine as they will get extended time to prove they deserve a roster spot. This is the last week of Draftkings preseason! Let’s win some cash to beef up the bankroll for the regular season.
Let’s talk about some potential spots to target.
Jacoby Brissett/Phillip Walker
The Colts will take on the Cincinnati Bengals tonight and as of now it is looking like Brissett and Walker will be the only available quarterbacks on the Colts depth chart. I am unsure as of now how much playing time Brissett will see, but if he does see a decent chunk of the first half he could easily put up a nice score. Brissett has legitimate starter experience against number one defenses and if he gets a solid number of reps against Cincy’s backups then it is a situation you can’t ignore. This reminds me of last week when Nathan Peterman played the entire second half against Cincinnati’s backups and was able to look like a legitimate NFL quarterback. In the event that Brissett does not see a lot of time, I don’t mind pivoting to Walker as there is nobody else behind him and would soak up the rest of the game.
Cooper Rush/Mike White
Dak Prescott was held out of last week’s Cowboys game along with a bunch of other starters which left Cooper Rush and Mike White to handle the rest of the quarterback reps. The Cowboys proceeded to get manhandled by the Cardinals defense. With that said, I am not afraid about going back to the well here as Rush actually saw action against the Cards’ ones without any of his starting offensive linemen. Rush and White could be great plays and I will approach this situation just as the last one with Brissett and Walker. It will come down to clarity on playing time as to who I roll with.
Deshone Kizer/Tim Boyle
With the trade of quarterback Brett Hundley to the Seahawks, Deshone Kizer seems to have a solid grip on the backup job behind Aaron Rodgers. Only him and Tim Boyle are the only available quarterbacks behind Rodgers. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kizer saw a nice chunk of time tonight. Kizer is another quarterback with actual starting experience and if he is going against the backups of the Chiefs horrid defense I have no issues about firing him up.
I fully expect guys like John Kelly, Jordan Wilkins, Chris Warren and Nick Chubb to carry some ownership and for good reason. With those guys in mind, I am going to touch on a couple of other names I like as well.
Jackson currently seems to be winning the battle with Bo Scarbrough for a spot on the 53 man roster. Jackson has done most of his damage in the passingn game which is especially important on Draftkings. He has had 4 catches in each of the past two games.
Cannon has shown some of his ability throughout the preseason with the Jets having a banged up depth chart. I think he will see enough opportunity to keep up the good work tonight.
The Eagles currently have a couple of decisions to make on the back end of their running back depth chart. Doug Pederson had mentioned earlier in the week how he would like to see more out of Josh Adams. Adams has shown some positive signs the past couple of weeks and this will be his last shot to make an impression.
Packers Wide Receivers
If you are going to lock in one of the Packers two quarterbacks, then you are going to want to get a piece of their receiving game. It is a crowded depth chart with guys like J’Mon Moore, Equanimeous St. Brown, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Jake Kumerow all competing for snaps.
49ers Wide Receivers
Richie James has shown some flashes this preseason for the 49ers and has gotten a nice share of snaps. He is someone to keep on the lookout for. Kendrick Bourne is another guy who could soak up a lot of snaps with the banged-up receiver depth chart.
Gathers has been a household name in the preseason and appears to be on the roster bubble for the Cowboys even though they lack playmakers at tight end. He also had a nice outing last week as he caught five of seven targets for 30 yards. He has shown that he can be a force on the field and he should have another solid night here.
Cajuste currently finds himself in a nice spot tonight with a weak tight end depth chart in Cleveland. The Browns released one of their tight ends this week and David Njoku will almost certainly not play tonight. This should leave Cajuste to soak up a lot of playing time.
Well, that about does for this last preseason breakdown. Make sure to monitor all the players mentioned above up until lock for more clarity on their playing time. Hopefully, these guys can get you in the green in this final week before the regular season.
