The NFL woke up today feeling like John Wick.
It goes without saying that one of the hardest things in fantasy is figuring out who to start. That is doubly true when you start mixing positions to figure out who to start in your flex. Heck, isn’t that why best ball leagues have become so popular?
But alas, The Fantasy Authority is here to help! Every week, I will devise these flex rankings using WR21-35 and RB21-35 from our weekly Half PPR ranks, as well as some suggestions from Twitter. If I don’t solve your quandary below, feel free to ask me on Twitter: @Dan_Haas.
Fantasy Football Flex Rankings: Week 1
And seeing as my birthday is this Sunday, we’ll do a special birthday flex edition this week:
1 Mark Ingram (BAL) at MIA – Baltimore is favored by 6.5 on the road so Ingram should see plenty of scoring opportunities and a positive game script
2 Duke Johnson (HOU) at NO – Should be featured in Week 1 while Carlos Hyde gets up to speed, and Vegas is expecting a track meet (OU 53 is highest of the week)
3 Josh Jacobs (OAK) vs. DEN – Expected to be a bellcow in Gruden’s offense
4 T.Y. Hilton (IND) at LAC – I’m not worried about Brissett—much different circumstances as he takes the reins this time around
5 David Montgomery (CHI) vs. GB – The Bears are hyping him, but we still don’t know how much work he’ll cede to Cohen and Davis
6 D.J. Moore (CAR) vs. LAR
7 Josh Gordon (NE) vs. PIT – When he plays, you play him. Simple as that.
8 Tyler Boyd (CIN) at SEA – No A.J. Green, and I expect Cincy to be throwing a lot getting 9.5 points on the road
9 Austin Ekeler (LAC) vs. IND – From Twitter user @ZKantzabedian
10 Mike Williams (LAC) vs. IND
11 James White (NE) vs. PIT
12 Derrick Henry (TEN) at CLE – Don’t love the matchup in a potentially negative game script (5.5 point dogs)—he’s also not a pass-catcher if they fall behind
13 Calvin Ridley (ATL) at MIN
14 Alshon Jeffery (PHI) vs. WAS
15 Miles Sanders (PHI) vs. WAS – Just yesterday, the Eagles tried to trade Jordan Howard, which should tell you how they feel about him
16 Tarik Cohen (CHI) vs. GB
17 Michael Gallup vs. NYG – As I said to @JerryHLee on Twitter, I’m expecting big things from Gallup this season
18 Jarvis Landry (CLE) vs. TEN
19 Latavius Murray (NO) vs. HOU – He’s not Mark Ingram, but lots of points will be scored and maybe he can fall in the end zone once or twice
20 Tevin Coleman (SF) at TB – Breida is listed as the starter on the unofficial depth chart but it will be close to 50/50 split
21 Kenyan Drake (MIA) vs. BAL – Not a lot of weapons on this roster and Drake is the clear pass-catching back if they fall behind
22 Dede Westbrook (JAC) vs. KC
23 Will Fuller (HOU) at NO – He’s supposedly healthy coming back from another ACL tear and there will be points scored
24 Justin Jackson vs. IND – I told @FantasyBurner12 that Jackson could be a sneaky play this week
25 Sammy Watkins (KC) at JAC – If Mahomes throws for 50 TD again, there should be plenty to feed Watkins
26 Christian Kirk vs. DET – Another one from @FantasyBurner12 on Twitter
27 Cooper Kupp (LAR) at CAR – Temper expectations in a player’s first game back from major injury and for Kupp, it happened late in the season
28 Derrius Guice (WAS) at PHI– Negative game script (Redskins +9.5) for a non-pass catching back (those go to Thompson) and first game back from injury
29 Robby Anderson (NYJ) vs. BUF – I worry about his foot injury this week
30 Dion Lewis at CLE – From @letzgoterps on Twitter
31 Devin Singletary (BUF) at NYJ – Let’s see how things shake out in this RBBC before we get ahead of ourselves
32 Marvin Jones at ARI – A Twitter suggestion from @Broncos_Insider
33 Larry Fitzgerald (ARI) vs. DET
34 Corey Davis (TEN) at CLE
35 LeSean McCoy (KC) at JAC – He hasn’t had much time with KC so I’m expecting limited snaps in Week 1
You made it to the end of the rankings. Kudos! Every week, I’ll also try to reward my readers with a different kind of flex ranking for fun.
Given the cool fall breeze in the air, I’ll unleash the basic b*tch in me and rank pumpkin-flavored foods. The market is over-saturated with them, so consider these the only things worth trying:
1 Pumpkin Mochi Cake – The most delicious dessert I’ve ever consumed; available only at Union Sushi + BBQ Bar in Chicago
2 Schlafly Pumpkin Ale – The best pumpkin beer on the market and frankly, the only one worth drinking
3 Pumpkin Ravioli – A decent vegetarian option for wedding meals—not that I’d ever go that route
4 Pumpkin Doughnuts – My co-worker says they’re legit so I’ll take her word for it
5 Pumpkin Pie Dip with Nilla Wafer Cookies – My wife makes this for every party this time of year and literally no one eats it; still beats pumpkin pie though
Good luck in Week 1!
