Can you believe it? The NFL season officially kicks off in just three days, which means that today is Labor Day! Just because it’s a holiday doesn’t mean that we can ignore fantasy football with the season this close. Today we will discuss my latest pick for #ManCrushMonday, Robert Kelley. If you are a casual fan, you may not even know who he is, so let me break him down for you.

Robert Who?

Robert Kelley is a running back for the Washington Redskins. He is an undrafted rookie free agent out of Tulane University who might just be the starting running back next Monday night for the Skins. Kelley has looked shifty and aggressive this preseason, gaining over 5 yards per carry. Listed at 5’11 and 226 lbs, Kelley isn’t a speedster, but he is slippery and has a rock-solid stiff arm.

What About Matt Jones?

Just a few weeks ago, the projected starter for the season was Matt Jones. After the Redskins cut ties with Alfred Morris earlier in the offseason, it was assumed Jones would take the torch. However, about two weeks ago Jones suffered a sprained AC joint which puts his week one availability in question. The second-year player out of Florida was less than efficient in his rookie season, despite showing flashes of potential. The injury leaves the door open for Kelley to impress on a national stage and work his way into a timeshare for the Redskins.

What to Expect From Kelley

The 2015 prospects for Kelley depend largely on the health and effectiveness of Matt Jones. If Jones doesn’t stay healthy, or is inefficient like he was last year, Kelley could eventually end up with the majority of the carries in the Redskins backfield. Chris Thompson is likely to be the receiving back either way, but there are situations where Kelley could get 10-15 carries per game if things fall his way. That kind of opportunity is worth paying attention to for fantasy football purposes.

If you haven’t drafted yet, take a flier on him and keep an eye on the situation. If he is on the waiver wire, go grab him and stash him on your bench until the situation becomes a little less muddled.

Thanks for checking out another segment of #ManCrushMonday, I hope we have given you some insight into a player who could be a household name in just a week’s time.
